Dr. James L. Flickner graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1971 and the Southern California College of Optometry in 1975. In addition to family eyecare, his areas of expertise include Low Vision examination and treatment, fitting challenging contact lens prescriptions, and Sports Vision. He is a long-standing member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and the Monterey Bay Optometric Society. In recent years he has been an international speaker on the for Vistakon (maker of Acuvue contacts), Essilor of America (maker of Varilux progressive lenses), and Optos (maker of the Optomap retinal scanner). He has been the sole owner of Romie Lane Optometric Center since 1978. Dr. Flickner was recently joined in the practice by his son, Dr. Christian Flickner and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jennell Bockenstedt.
Dr. Christian J. Flickner grew up on the Monterey Peninsula. He attended the Washington Union School District and then Palma High School. He graduated from California State University, Sacramento in 2001 with a degree in biology. He graduated cum laude from the Southern California College of Optometry in 2005. Dr. Christian Flickner enjoys golfing, fishing, and watching sports. His areas of interest and expertise are family eyecare, ocular health, and pathology. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and the Monterey Bay Optometric Society. He is the oldest son of Dr. James L. Flickner and has been a talented addition to the practice since 2005. Dr. Christian and Dr. Jennell were married in 2007 and live in Las Palmas. They have a son Cole James Flickner and a daugther Jordan Jean Flickner.
Dr. Jennell Bockenstedt grew up in Strawberry Point, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in biomedical in 2001. She then escaped the winters of the Midwest and attended the Southern California College of Optometry. She is now happy to call Monterey County home and has really enjoyed becoming part of such an amazing community. Dr. Bockenstedt enjoys spending her free time traveling back to Iowa to see her family. She wrote her thesis on High Order Aberration and is interested in pediatric optometry. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and the Monterey Bay Optometric Society. Romie Lane Optometric Center was happy to have Dr. Bockenstedt join our practice in 2005. Dr. Christian and Dr. Jennell were married in 2007 and live in Las Palmas. She and Dr. Christian Flickner have a son Cole James Flickner and a daugther Jordan Jean Flickner.
Dr. Maureen Hong grew up on the Monterey Peninsula and attended Foothill Elementary School, Colton Middle School and Monterey High School. She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1997 with a degree in Psychology. She graduated with honors from Southern California College of Optometry in 2003. She has worked in the medical and optometric fields since 1995. She joined Romie Lane Optometric Center in 2012; and is a welcome addition to our practice. Dr. Hong lives in the Monterey Bay Area with her son and daughter.
Deanna Hinojosa graduated from Alisal High School. Deanna has worked at Romie Lane Optometric Center since 2001 as a Dispensing Optician. Deanna is a Certified Paraoptometric Assistant and Certified Contact Lens Technician. She is a member of the paraoptometric sections of the California Optometric Association and the National Contact Lens Examiners. Deanna's specialty areas in the office are low vision and contact lenses. She completed The Vision Care Institute, LLC staff readiness and contact lens program in 2008. Deanna is married to Fabian and has three children, Jasmine, Javanny and Juliana. When not working Deanna enjoys family time.
